Commedia dell'Arte Mask Makers

Piccolo Theatre is indebted to the two living treasures of the art of the mask, Antonio Fava and Donato Sartori. Antonio, for his exquisite commedia masks that have produced inspired performances by our actors; and Donato, for maintaining and going beyond the work of his father, Amleto Sartori. We shall never forget our personal interactions and the guidance we received from them. Grazie mille.

Piccolo Theatre is delighted to collaborate with the Master of commedia dell' Arte, Antonio Fava. At this reception dinner we devised the plan to produce a commedia dell' arte play in the Southern Italian style. From the newly discovered scenario called, "The Magic Well" we developed our hit production of "Lust, Lies and Marriage or Il Pozzo dei Furbi."

When members of Piccolo Theatre traveled to Italy, we visited the Master of Masks, Donato Sartori, son of Amletto Sartori, who reinvented the technique of making commedia masks in leather. Donato has continued this tradition. He  visited Chicago in 2006. Here we are reuniting with Donato.

Please visit Sartori Mask Museum to learn more about classes and special events hosted by Donato Sartori.
