Our Theatre

The intimacy of our small theater fuels the manic, high-speed comedy action.  "I don't recall ever getting this close to original commedia."

About Our Comedy

Piccolo's comedy is bawdy at times, but always physical and energetic!  The best comedy often comes from the darkest of places, and sometimes the fool is the least foolish of them all.

About Our Comedy

Commedia dell' arte is a living art Piccolo nurtures with both care and reckless abandon. "Chicago's only example of British Panto is Piccolo's Holiday show... Piccolo squeezes 13 actors onto its tiny but highly colorful stage."

About Our Comedy

Masks are an indispensible part of the commedia dell'arte experience. Masks can hide a face, yet reveal the true measure of one's character. With masks and costumes so vibrant, actors are challenged to be their equal. Comedy is often the art of wearing a mask with no mask at all.

Cinderella Pantomime Theater

British Toy Theater modelFrom this page one may download the components to build a British toy theater, as well as the British panto script of Cinderella.

This download comprises 3 documents:

First, print out all the images in 'Theatre_pages.pdf', preferably on thin card. Although most of the pages should be printed in black on white for best results, the support structure is better printed in colour so that the colour-coded fold and score marks are clearly visible.

If you don't have any card, or your printer is unable to print onto card, use normal paper and then glue the components to card afterwards - the back of a breakfast cereal packet is good for this. It is important that the support structure is fairly strong to prevent the theatre from wobbling about!

Once all the parts have been printed you should then cut them out and colour them. For a guide to colouring see the links on the Toy Theatre page of the PeoplePlayUK website.
